Linda Flynn Hursey died peacefully on January 7, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Linda was born in Baton Rouge, La., on October 11, 1941. After graduation from Istrouma High School and Draughn Business College in Baton Rouge, she met and married her husband of nearly 50 years, Paul Bruce Hursey. Together they shared a wonderful life living in Mississippi, Arkansas and Texas before settling in Monroe in 1986. Being a full-time mother was important to Linda as she raised her children. Linda was a loving mother to her children and their spouses: Linda Leigh Vaccaro (Mike) of Hillsdale, N.J., Paul Flynn Hursey (Lori) of Benton, La. As a doting grandmother, she was “Nonie” to Gavin Reece Hursey and Audrey Caroline Hursey of Benton, La. She is also survived by her brother Malcolm W. Flynn and wife, Debbie, of Osyka, Miss., sisters-in-law Leah Kristen Hursey of Baton Rouge and Colleen Hursey Dunstane of Alexandria and numerous nephews and a niece. Linda is preceded in death by her daughter Laura Kristen Hursey, and parents, Joe W. and Nellie W. Flynn.As an active member of P.E.O. International, Linda served as president of the local Chapter BB. She enjoyed United Methodist Women (UMW) membership in each of the communities where she lived. In the nearly 50 years she was associated with UMW, she held various leadership positions, including UMW president while active at First United Methodist Church in Monroe. A First Church member for nearly 30 years, she was also active in the Friendship Sunday School class, the church’s Bible studies, the J-Force program and other outreach ministries. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Monroe with the Revs. Lynn Malone and J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 1 - 3 p.m. at the church. Interment to follow at Rose Hedge Cemetery, Gurdon, Ark.The family wishes to acknowledge their appreciation of the care given to her by Dr. Greg Green and the nursing staff at St. Francis Medical Center.
