Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Linda Faye Atkins Perry, 80, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 28, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday.
Linda was born on November 12, 1941, in Lafayette, LA. She was the daughter of Oren Howard Atkins, Sr. and Alma Juanita Bradley Atkins. At six weeks old and clinging to life, her parents brought her to West Monroe, LA, where she was treated and saved by Dr. Ralph Talbot. From there she flourished attending Mitchell, Crosley and West Monroe High School graduating in 1959. Then she went to Louisiana Tech for a year then on to LSU, where she graduated in 1962. She taught school in Lafayette for a few years then came home to West Monroe and taught in the Ouachita Parish School System for 20 years. Linda and Tommy Perry met as teachers, married and enjoyed life until his death. Linda and Tommy spent many years as owners and operators of The Stag Shop in West Monroe. She then went back to Tech and got a certification in medical records and worked many years at St. Francis Hospital. She never retired and was busy all the time with other business endeavors. She was active in her book club and with her Class of ’59 events. She was an avid reader and was known to read late into the night to finish whatever she was reading. Linda, Jean and Howard had the good fortune of growing up in a wonderful 1950’s and 60’s family with a great church, school and neighborhood. Linda had so many great friends and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins that she loved and enjoyed.
Linda passed from this life on May 26, 2022, at the age of 80.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Perry; her parents; and her brother, Oren Howard Atkins, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Atkins Perry; her sister and best friend, Jean Atkins Shaw (Sherman); her nieces and nephew, Gregory Howard Newton (Shannon), Melanie Newton McGough (Keith), Rebecca Atkins Hays (Brandon), and Jennifer Atkins Martin (Andy); and Rebecca and Jennifer’s mother, Karen Atkins; and her great nieces and nephews, Jake, Lilly and Addie Newton, Ruby and Aubrey McGough, Luke and Connor Hays, and Lauren and Parker Martin. Linda never passed a day without talking to her friend and confidant, Kimberly Boston Dobbins.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Newton, Keith A. McGough, Andy Martin, Brandon Hays, Jake Newton, Connor Hays, Luke Hays and Dennis Dobbins.
