Funeral services for Lillie C. Bass Spence, 95, of Isola, MS, will be held at 12:00PM, Monday, December 12, 2016, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Lillie Crews Bass Spence went to be with her heavenly father, Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS, after a brief illness. She was the surviving member of her family, being preceded in death by her parents, David and Eula Crews and four brothers.
Known affectionately as Miss Lil, Lillie survived the flood of ’27, the Depression, being widowed twice, breast cancer and raising 5 children. She always put the needs of her children and family first. She provided a loving home for her children as well as her step children. Creative and artistic, she enjoyed painting still lifes and landscapes, sewing, and designing. Lillie had a strong relationship and faith with her Lord and Savior. While living in Monroe, she was an active member of Parkview Baptist Church as a GA leader and member of the WMU. She later joined the Fairbanks Baptist Church where she was a member until moving to Isola, Mississippi where she became a member of Isola United Methodist Church. She was very independent, driving until age 94 and taking care of her own home and business affairs until her illness.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, J.B. Bass and son, Percy Bass and husband C.J. (Tig) Spence.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Bass Day and son in law, Bill of Katy, Texas, Ron Spence of Sterlington, Louisiana, Bruce Spence (Sherry) of Denver, Colorado, and Janice Bass Bearden and son in law, J.M. (Spooky) of Isola, Mississippi; her grandchildren, Diana Rigor(Sid) of Aptos, California, Donna Smith (Clyde) and Deborah Moore of Katy, Texas. Derrell Bass of Williston, Florida, April Bass of Sterling, Virginia, Matt Spence (Ashley) of Sterlington, Louisiana, Danny Spence of Denver, Colorado and Amanda Spence of San Francisco, California. She had 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 11:00AM to 12:00PM, Monday, December 12, 2016, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA
The family thanks her devoted caregiver, Charlie Mae Eubanks of Isola, MS and the staff of Continue Care Home Health of Belzoni, MS for their loving care during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to a favorite charity.
