Memorial services for Lilla Dukes Brackin, 90, of Monroe, LA, formerly of Lake Providence, LA, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 17, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Lake Providence, LA, with Rev. Justin Clark officiating. Interment will be at Felps Cemetery in Thicket, TX at a later date. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday at the Church.
Lilla was born February 21, 1929 to the union of John Luther and Lois Sumrall Dukes, and passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
Lilla Dukes Brackin was born in Forest, LA, and was raised in the Alsatia Community. She graduated from the Lake Providence High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Lilla taught Home Economics at West Jefferson High School in New Orleans until 1969, when she, her husband and daughter relocated to Lake Providence where she resided until her husband's death in November of 2017. She then moved to St. Joseph Assisted Living where the made many new friends. Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother. She will be sorely missed.
Lilla was preceded in death by her parents, John Luther and Lois Sumrall Dukes; She lost the love of her life, retired District Judge Charles Brackin on Thanksgiving day 2017, 2 days before their 64th Anniversary; sisters, Ruby Walters (Doc) and Ruth Breard; and brother, Troye Duke (MinnieLee).
Survivors include daughter, Lida McGivern and husband Richard McGivern, Jr.; grandson, Richard McGivern, III, and wife Joanna.
