Funeral Services for Mr. Leon Gilley, age 89, of Mangham, LA will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Baptist Church near Mangham, LA with Rev's David Shirley, Paul Kolb, and John Holdiness III officiating. Interment will follow in Gwin Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Rayville, LA.
Mr. Leon was born on January 9, 1919 in Mangham, LA and passed away on June 26, 2008, and was a life-long resident of Mangham.
After attending Mangham High School, Mr. Gilley enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. After his service was completed, he returned to Monroe and met the love of his life, Christyne Monroe Gilley. They were wed on July 15, 1950 and were married for 58 years. Mr Leon and Mrs. Christyne opened Gilley's of Alto, a general store, in 1956 and ran it for 31 years. Mr. Leon was a cotton farmer and welder all of his life until he became ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carrie Gilley, brother, George Lee Gilley, and son, Craig Gilley.
Survivors include: Wife: Christyne Monroe Gilley of Mangham, LA. 3 Granddaughters: Tashia Gilley Osborn and husband Chad of West Monroe, Tara Gilley Knight and husband Robert of Monroe, and Tabitha Gilley of West Monroe. Daughter-in-Law: Sherrie McCraw and husband Rusty of West Monroe. 2 Great-Grandsons: Tristen Osborn and Christian Knight. 2 Brothers: Freddie Gilley and wife Dot of Mangham, and Bobby Gilley and wife Alice of Corpus Christi, TX.
Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Gilley, Tommy Kelly, Donnie Gilley, Adam Robinson, Dock Hill and Billy Joe Remore.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA.
