Memorial service for Mr. Leo Chesney Duchesne, 95, of Monroe, LA, will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Bernard Duchesne, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Duchesne was born on October 4, 1925 in Winnsboro, LA, and died on December 14, 2020. He was a faithful member of Cypress Street Church of God in West Monroe, LA, where he loved serving on the Board of Trustees, as treasurer, Sunday School teacher, usher, greeter, and in any position, he was asked to. He was a proud member of the Gideons International with whom he distributed free Bibles to hotels, hospitals, schools, jails, and prisons. He worked in his family’s grocery business just south of Winnsboro, Louisiana, and then owned the Singer Sewing Machine Shops in Bastrop and Monroe with his loving wife, Geraldean. Because of his devotion to his business, many people knew him as “the Singer Man”.
Leo was an Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the Phillippines. He loved to read, he loved his church family, he loved sweets, and he loved to watch old cartoons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Naomi Duchesne; brothers, Bernard Duchesne, Sr., Charles Duchesne, Faye Duchesne, and Judge Duchesne; and son, Ronald Vining.
Survivors include his wife of 48 ½ years, Geraldean H. Duchesne; children, Alice F. Sporl and husband Philip, Linda K. Milliken, Leon C. Duchesne and wife Marilyn, and Kelly L. Vining and wife Sherry; daughter-in-law, Annette Vining; numerous grandchildren, Christi Sporl, Philip Anthony Sporl, Peter Sporl, Tyron Milliken and wife Amber, Judge Milliken and wife Brandy, Nicole Newton and her husband Todd, Michelle McGee, Barbara Hughes and her husband David, Amanda Vining, and Kristi Vining; 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; two sisters, Ruth Chumley and Nina Hilton; and brothers, Edward Duchesne and wife Jeanie and Sam Chesney.
