Funeral services for Mrs. Lela Evis Loflin West, 95 of Monroe, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2007, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. West passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2007. She was born June 16, 1912 in Eros, LA, where the Loflin Family Reunion is still held every October, to William and Emma Turner-Loflin. “Mae” West, as some called her, was well known in Monroe by many for her wit, charm, and good nature. She worked for the Mulhearn Family and later operated the Kopper Kettle Restaurant on DeSiard Street. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe.
Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, Robert F. West; sons, Robert “Rink” and William West; daughter, Margaret and son-in-law, Crayton Laughman; grandsons, Gary and William West; and her great grandson, Christopher West.
Survivors include her two sons, Bobby Ray West and wife Shirlane of Monroe, and James West of Decatur, GA; daughters-in-law, Gwen West of Columbia, IL, and Jean David and husband Sam of West Monroe; grandchildren, Belinda, Len, Ramona, Randy, Bart, Julie, Lisa, Gloria, Bridget, and Donnie; and two sisters, Florence Smith of Monroe, and Lovie Boutwell of Kingwood, TX.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Friday from 1:00 PM until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, or to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
