Graveside Services for Laster Clifton Williams will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens in West Monroe. Sonny was born on January 3, 1935 in West Monroe and went to his Heavenly Home on June 4, 2020. Services will be officiated by family friend and pastor, Waymond Warren.
From a young age, Sonny loved making things with his hands. In his teen years, he worked in his dad’s shop making tools and changing processes to improve the efficiency of the operation. Instead of completing high school, Sonny attended trade school to learn working as a machinist. He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War in 1953 proudly serving as a machinist on the submarine tender, U.S.S. Sperry, before being honorably discharged in 1957. At the end of his service, he worked for his brother, Weldon, building many houses in the surrounding area. During this time, he honed his woodworking skills and became well-known as a master cabinet builder, finish carpenter, and master woodturner. After retirement, he continued his love for woodworking by creating and sharing many of his creations through woodturning.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Evie & Laster Williams, brothers, Audrey “AC” & Weldon Williams, and sisters, Ila Mae Woodlee, Oretha Beard, & Nola Fae Horne.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, children, Rhonda Earl (Billy), Ronnie Williams (Pam), Donnie Williams (Marlene), his Grandchildren, Brandon Earl (Allison), Brittany Earl, Brooklyn & Brianna Williams, and Hannah Williams, Great Grandchildren, Annabelle & Lillian Earl, and many nieces and nephews.
