Kenneth, or Ken, McConnell, a proud patriot, passed away on October 16, 2022, at the age of 64 after a painful battle with colon cancer, surrounded by his family.
Born in Germany on November 5, 1957, to Dot & Marvin McConnell, Ken moved several times in his childhood due to being an Army brat, picking up a lot of good stories along the way. Among his favorites; the time he was kidnapped by nuns in Italy, how his family would play in the castle courtyards in Germany, or the time he and Randy had to call their parents at the Officer’s Club because someone had been injured while they had been sword fighting, or fishing in the Panama Canal Zone. After high school he joined the United States Navy, eventually achieving the rank of E4 as a Torpedoman’s Mate. If you sat and talked with him a while, he would always have a story about his travels. His smile was unmatched when he met a fellow veteran, always making sure to shake their hand and tell them thank you. In his later years, he enjoyed sharing his love of cooking with others. He never met a stranger, especially not at the grocery store.
He was a proud father to two children, Chris and Kelly McConnell, to whom he passed along his love of adventure. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy McConnell. He leaves behind his father, Marvin McConnell; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy & Carolyn McConnell; as well as a large extended family.
Visitation will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe on Wednesday evening, October 19, 2022, between the hours of 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The funeral will be held at the same location on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be at Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, Louisiana, with military honors following the funeral ceremony.
