Memorial service for Kenneth Darryl Barnes, 56, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at North Monroe Baptist Church, Finks Hideaway Road, Monroe, with Rev. Bill Dye, Rev.Warren Eckhardt, and Rev. Charles Dupree officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Ken Barnes was born on August 8, 1964 in Monroe, LA. He was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance for 30 years, where he served as a senior claims representative. Ken was an avid lover of sports where he spent many years playing baseball, basketball, and football through his high school years. Ken was a 1982 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. He received a baseball scholarship to Northeast Louisiana University where he attended college and graduated in Business in 1986. He also coached many recreational sports in which his two sons played. Ken was a die-hard LSU Tiger fan for many years. He loved all sports including golf and was part of a golfing crew with many high school buddies. After college, he met and married the love of his life, Leslye Walters Barnes. They were married for 30 years and lived in Monroe with their two sons, Darryl and Zach. He and his family were members of North Monroe Baptist Church where Ken taught Sunday School for many years. He also served as a leader in the Children’s Ministry. Ken was truly “one of a kind” and a man who dearly loved his Lord, his wife, his children, other family members, and friends. Everyone who knew Ken loved him. He was known to be an amazing husband and father as well as a great friend and athlete. Beside his family and sports, some other things dear to his heart were all children, animals, especially his dog, Daisy, good food and his “naps”. He was also known for his acts of love and kindness toward others. Ken participated and led in many Bible studies and also gave to many charities and organizations.
Ken is preceded in death by his mother in law, Elizabeth Sherrill; maternal grandparents Duke and Ruby McGough; paternal grandparents, Norman and Mildred Barnes; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Those left behind to cherish his memories includes his wife, Leslye Walters Barnes, his two sons, Darryl Barnes and Zach Barnes: his parents, Hartwell and Betty Barnes, his brother Jerry Barnes (Cindy), his sister Brenda Roberts (James). Other members were his father in law, Forrest Walters (Billie) and two sisters in law, Barbara Fleming (Jonathan) and Sam Hinton (Josh); and many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Serving as pallbearers are: Britton Barnes, Tyler Jackson, Austin Jackson, Brian Cordasco, Barry Collins, Greg McGough, Keith McGough, Richie Tindall, Brad Morace, David Manley and Bobby Nichols.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are the employees of Farm Bureau Claims Region 2; Tony Brumley, Jim Murray, Jonathan Spears, Scott Hall, Mickey Head, Jonathan Moore, Nick Hopkins, and David Key. Also, serving is his high school Golfing Crew, Jeff Stites, Curtis Sain, Gene Cupit, Kevin Kennedy, David Manley and Stoney Goodman.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 9:00 AM until beginning of service at North Monroe Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a Special Thanks to Dr. Keith Calhoun, Glenwood Hospital Staff and Ochsner of New Orleans Critical Care Unit.
