Funeral Services for Kaye Evans, 66, of Flower Mound, TX, formerly of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Dr.Woods Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Clarks Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in West Monroe.
Ms. Evans was born on December 14, 1942 in Monroe, LA and passed away on September 22, 2009 in Flower Mound, TX.
Kaye graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in 1960 and went on to graduate from Northeast Louisiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology, Master’s degree in Psychology, and Specialist degree in Psychology. Kaye was passionate about making a difference in the lives of special needs children. She spent the majority of her professional career designing and implementing programs to support this effort. Kaye is a past president of the Louisiana School Psychology Association.
Kaye was very active in Louisiana politics and devoted much of her time in the 70’s to advancing equal rights for women. She was elected to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee and was appointed to the Job Training Program Administration (JTPA) by the then Governor of Louisiana.
Kaye took pride in her family and spent many years supporting the schools her children attended. Whether it was countless hours at the ballpark, PTA functions or other school related events, Kaye was passionate about those things that were dear to her. While residing in West Monroe, Kaye was an active participant in McGuire Methodist Church.
Kaye is survived by her former husband, Lee Evans of West Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Amy Evans of Lexington, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Paul Thibodeaux of Flower Mound, Texas; step-daughter and husband, Sadia and Kevin Rahnert, of West Monroe, Louisiana; 6 grandchildren, Parker, Peyton, Addie Lynn and Patrick Evans all of South Carolina and Evan and Annabelle Thibodeaux of Texas. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry McDonald and wife Myra of West Monroe and Tim McDonald and wife Joann of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Kaye is preceded in death by her parents, Laurence W. McDonald and Kathleen Chandler McDonald.
Visitation will be form 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
