Kathryn Elizabeth Higgins Smith

Funeral services for Kathryn Elizabeth Higgins Smith, 68, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 23, 2013, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Larry Ferris, Rev. Dan Mercado, and Rev. Tom Eaton officiating. Interment will follow at New Light Baptist Church Cemetery. 
Kathy went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 19, 2013 after a brief illness. Kathy was born on November 6, 1944 in Logansport, IN, to the union of Belle and Clarence Higgins. She enjoyed a career as a lab tech at the Children’s Clinic in Monroe for 27 years. Kathy and her husband have been devoted members of the First Church of the Nazarene in Monroe for 48 years. Her faith in her Heavenly Father sustained her, along with the love she shared for her family, church members, and friends. 
Kathy enjoyed cooking for family, exquisite crocheting and quilting with friends, and spending time with the family she loved so much. 
Kathy was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather Smith; her parents, Belle and Clarence Higgins, and her brother, Clarence “Boy” Higgins. 
Survivors include her beloved husband of 48 years, Roy Lester Smith, Sr.; children, Karen Barnhill and husband Clay, Roy Lester “R.L.” Smith, Jr., and Evelyn “Boo” Crawley and husband Roger; one sister, Judy Hillman and husband Donald; and grandchildren, Dorri, Dayne, and Royne Barnhill, Christopher and Jonathon Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
Pallbearers will be Gary Lawson, Tom Dickens, Roy Duffey, Doug Nelson, Tommy Smith, and Garrett, Grant, and Mitchell McKee. Honorary pallbearers will be Toni Duke, Sharlene Haney, Roy McCaa, Christopher and Jonathon Smith, Dayne and Royne Barnhill. 
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Monroe.
