Mrs. Thompson was born on October 31, 1930, in Texarkana, TX, and passed away on January 7, 2024, in Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie W. Thompson, and parents, W. H. Gentry and Mary Norton Gentry. She met her husband in 1953 while attending East Texas Baptist College. They married on January 30, 1955, then shortly after, they were called to the ministry and she became a “pastor’s wife”. Mrs. Thompson was a wonderful, caring and supportive wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved God with all her heart and was a devoted member of Parkview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was a talented artist and enjoyed the time spent with her special art group friends, painting and socializing. One of her greatest strengths was being the ultimate prayer warrior for all those she loved and cared about.
Survivors include her son, Paul Waylon Thompson (Angela); daughter, Phyllis Thompson Tyler (Brian); grandchildren, Joshua Thompson (Erin), Jeremy Thompson, Austin Tyler (Natalia), Rose Marie Tyler, Tyler Barber (Caitlin), and Jacob Barber; great grandson, Will Thompson; great granddaughter, Lilah Barber; sisters, Hazel Helms (Freddy), Sarah Cunningham, Mary Kelley (Mike), and Alice Woodfin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Tyler, John Eason, Joshua Thompson, Jeremy Thompson, Austin Tyler, Tyler Barber, and Jacob Barber.
Special thanks to her sitter and companion, Carrie Johnson and the staff at Ouachita Healthcare and Allegiance Home Health and Hospice Care for the care given to her over the last several months and in her final days.
