Katherine “Kathy” Davis Alger passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at her home in Monroe, LA.
She was born in Monroe on November 9, 1948.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Octavia “Tot” Davis and Wesley R. Davis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Whitney Alger, Jr.; her brothers, Paul Davis, Sr. and wife, Suellen, Mike Davis Sr. of Calhoun, LA; sister, Sharon Gill and husband Jimmy, all of Monroe and West Monroe; niece, Karen Davis of Mobile, AL; nephews, Paul Davis Jr. and wife Amy, Mike Davis, Jr. and wife Melissa, Wes Davis; and special nephews, Christopher Gill, and Charles Gill all of West Monroe.
After graduating from Ouachita Parish High School, she studied at Northeast LA University.
In 2007, after 37 years as a Sr. Sales Engineer for Rockwell Automation, she retired to travel (more for business, although it was usually a pleasure also), and pursue other interests, along with spending more time with family and friends. She loved participating in her painting and art class every Wednesday afternoon.
She was the second woman to go into outside sales for the Reliance Electric Company, which later became Rockwell Automation. Even though she was offered many promotions for management and other positions in the company, she preferred her role in sales where she worked with the wonderful customers in the pulp, paper and wood products industry in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. She always wanted to remain here near her beloved family and friends.
After retirement, she, her husband, sisters, and nephews enjoyed traveling. They took trips to Italy, many to Canada, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, and all of the states in the northwest. She and Whitney went on many cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada, and other destinations. They visited most states in this country.
She was a devoted member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church where she served on various committees through the years where she met some of her best friends and sang in the choir.
In retirement, she became a licensed florist in Louisiana to fulfill a longtime desire to learn more about her love of floral design. She also discovered a love of painting and continued to paint with friends for many years. Her love for cats gave her many feline companions over the years, but her Whit was the love of her life as she would tell anyone. She considered her nephews, Chris and Charles, the sons she never had. Most of all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A celebration of her life will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 25, 2021, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Nat Barnett officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Saturday, July 24, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA.
Pallbearers will be Paul Davis, Jr., Mike Davis, Jr., Wesley Davis, Jimmy Gill, Steven Cline, and Dylan Davis.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her sitter, Linda Zykan and to her nurse, Candy.
