June Mary Lightfoot Rappold, 83, passed away, Monday, January 15, 2018, surrounded by her family, after a hard fought battle of cancer and other illnesses. June was born June 2, 1934, to Frederick and Florence Houldey Lightfoot, in Birmingham, England.
June was a beautiful soul who lived a simple life…a brave and strong woman meeting difficulties and adversities with undeniable strength. She owned and operated Hillside Grocery for 20+ years. She enjoyed gardening, tennis, reading and all forms of art, and pretty things. She especially loved Christmas and especially loved it when visitors proclaimed that this was the “best Christmas Tree ever”! June often shared stories about her life growing up in England. She loved her family and instilled in us great family values. She loved to be doted over and spoiled a lot, and took great joy when each child would declare to her that “they” were the favorite. Through her we learned the true value of making our Lord and Savior the center of our lives and to call upon the Holy Spirit for His divine direction when we had struggles or difficult decisions to make.
Preceding her in death is her husband of 27 years, John A. Rappold; parents; brother, Frederick Lightfoot; sister, Betty Joan Lightfoot Woodhouse; and son, Mark Anthony Rappold.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Patricia Cruise (Wayne); John F. Rappold (Debbie); Deborah Woods(Stephen); Raymond Rappold; James “Bo” Rappold(Kendi), and Keith Rappold (Jennifer); Michael Woods, her “adopted son”; nieces, Celia Wilkie (Hugh), Susan Stokes (Peter), Christine Anderson; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paschal’s Catholic Church in West Monroe followed by a mass officiated by Fr. Job Edathinatt Scaria celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Paschal’s Catholic Church Cemetery in West Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Pallbearers will be Chris Pendergrast, Joey Pendergrast, Luke Rappold, Michael Rappold, Ethan Rappold and Brian Woods.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Harvey, Gary Hoover, Joseph Mansour, Brandon Powell, David Woods, Stephen G. Woods and Michael Woods.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wayne Rutledge, the staff, nursing care and physical therapy team at Landmark Nursing home; Drs. Maxwell McDonald and Sanford Katz, and all the staff at Willis Knighton Cancer Institute for the care and love they gave to mom over the last several years and months. Special thanks to the physicians and staff at Promise Hospital of Louisiana-Bossier who tirelessly attended to mom’s every need in her last days and final hours.
Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or to the donor’s favorite charity in June’s memory.
