Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Julia Mae Dillard Cummings, 80, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Jim Arrant and Dr. Randy Burdeaux officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Mrs. Julia Mae Dillard Cummings was born on August 19, 1941, in Monroe, LA and passed away at her home peacefully with her family at her side on February 5, 2022. She graduated from West Monroe High School. As a teenager, she attended Bethel Baptist Church, where she came to know the Lord. It was through the friendships she made at Bethel that she met the one man that would change her life and love her unconditionally. It was on September 16, 1960, that Julia married Clint Cummings. After marriage, Julia and Clint attended Highland Baptist Church until they moved to the Luna Community in 1972 and began attending Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Over the years, many friendships and memories were made at Mt. Vernon. Julia loved to sing and did so as a member of the church choir as well as in the Ladies Ensemble. She also served the church as a teacher for many years to the ladies’ Sunday School class, known as the Esther Class. She and Clint moved Metairie, LA in 1983 and joined Parkview Baptist Church, where they were members for 8 years until they moved back to West Monroe in 1992. Julia loved her family, but her grandchildren always held a place in her heart. Julia retired from Progressive Bank after having worked in the banking industry for over 50 years. She was also an avid seamstress, who loved to create various styles of clothing. Julia enjoyed her Pokeno group and loved the ladies that she played with for over 30 years.

Julia is preceded in death by her husband, Clint Cummings; son, Craig Cummings; parents, James and Ernie Dillard; and brother, Jessie Dillard.

Survivors include her daughter, Christy Hemphill and husband, Daron; grandchildren, Caleb and Caitlyn Hemphill; siblings, Edward Dillard, Dianne Sutton and Martha Buchan; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Daron Hemphill, Caleb Hemphill, Jim Dillard, Brad Buchan, Will Mulhearn, and Bo Wilkes.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Sunday, February 6, 2022, and again from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Monday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all the friends and members of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church who have visited us, prayed for us, brought food and gave words of encouragement during these final days. Her sitters, especially, Toni and Tori, who cared for her and treated her with such compassion, and to her nurse, Tad, at Passages Hospice.
