Funeral services for Julia Anne McDonough Becton will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at McClendon Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA, with Dr. Kevin Stewart and Rev. James Gardner officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery on South Grand in Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.

Julia passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 6, 1948, in Monroe, LA. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank E. McDonough and Nell B. McDonough, and infant sister, Cherie McDonough.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Briggs Becton. Sons, Eric Becton and wife Jonna of West Monroe, LA, and Kevin Becton and wife Carrie of Burleson, TX. Sister, Martha Curry and husband William Curry of Crowville, LA. Grandchildren, Cole Becton, Hayden Becton, Justin Scott, Lauren Cotita Stuckey and Kendall Cotita. Great grandchildren, Kensley Wheelis, Presley Wheelis and Cayleigh Cotita; and dear friend, Sheila Stark.

Julia married Briggs Becton on February 14, 1969. They made their home in Monroe, LA, eventually relocating to West Monroe. Julia received a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) in 1977 and a Master’s in Education in 1982. She taught English at West Monroe High School from 1978 to 1995. After that, she traveled with her husband for his work and then she worked at Cross Keys Bank until retirement. While teaching at WMHS, she was the Rebel Raiders sponsor for several years.

Julia was a member of McClendon Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She loved to travel. She and Briggs took several trips abroad including a trip to Israel which was her favorite. She loved to read, study the Bible and enjoy her family.

Pallbearers will be Mark Juneau, Ron Barfield, Phillip Miller, Caleb Miller, Ethan Cranford, and Glenn Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of McClendon Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McClendon Baptist Church, MD Anderson Cancer Center or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
