Judy was born in Monroe, LA on October 12, 1948, to C.J. “Peck” Freeman and Nellie Beatrice “Bea” Linder Freeman, and passed away in West Monroe, LA on April 27, 2024, at the age of 75. She retired from the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a Mail Carrier for many years. She delivered mail to many areas throughout Ouachita Parish during her years there and made many friends along the routes she serviced. Many pets along her routes learned to sit and wait at the mailbox for treats so she could keep an eye out for them to be out of the way of her car. She spent many hours volunteering at the local animal shelters and considered her greatest accomplishment to be her efforts writing and assisting passing the Animal Control Ordinance for Ouachita Parish. She was an active member of the Ouachita Valley Dog Training Club for many years, teaching Obedience classes and took great joy and pride in the successes of her students, both human and canine! Another of her passions were the American Staffordshire Terriers she bred and raised for several years. She had many successes in the show ring, finishing AKC championships on dogs she bred and raised. Her eye for line, balance, and space contributed to this success. She was an artist. She worked at Reed’s Saddle Shop for several years tooling leather designs onto saddles, belts, wallets, and many custom items. To receive a gift from Judy was a special treat as it was usually an exquisitely designed handmade piece of art. Even envelopes for birthday or special occasion cards were never plain but were always decorated with intricately drawn designs and letters and doodles on a napkin or an envelope was a little treasure to be saved by whoever found it. Even as we miss her greatly our comfort will be that she has found her own treasure in peace and rest. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace E. and Shirley Freeman; and sister-in-law, Maxie Mount Freeman.
Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Freeman Blackstock and husband, Bill; brother, Robert W. “Bob” Freeman; seven nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Lockard, Mahlon Blackstock, Clay Blackstock, Bodie Blackstock, Tyler Owens, and Jay Kent. Honorary Pallbearer will be Debra Freeman.
Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to Ridgecrest Community Care Center and Caring Hands Hospice for the compassion and exemplary care given our family.
