Funeral services celebrating the life of Judge Jimmy N. Dimos, 84, of Monroe, LA will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday May 23, 2023, at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA with Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Judge Dimos died May 18, 2023, after a brief illness.
Judge Dimos was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church. Jimmy was a graduate of Neville High School, received his B.S. Degree from ULM and his Juris Doctorate from Tulane University Law School. He began his practice of the law in April, 1964 with Crowe and Parkerson, after serving six months of active duty in the National Guard. Jim then joined the firm of McKeithen, Mouser and McKinley later that year. In 1974 Jim and two colleagues started their own law firm of Dimos, Brown and Erskine. He served in the Louisiana House of Representatives for 23 years, serving as Speaker of the House during the Buddy Roemer administration. Jimmy served as a Judge in the Fourth Judicial District Court for 8 years from 1999 to 2007. In 2017, Judge Dimos was inducted in the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Judicial Hall of Fame.
His professional organizations include the following: Fourth Judicial District Bar Association; LA State Bar Association; Louisiana Law Institute Council; Louisiana District Judges Association; and Employers Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR).
Dimos was active in the community in the following civic organizations: President of the Monroe Jaycees; President of the NLU Alumni Association; Vice President of the Optimist Club of Greater Monroe; Chairman of the Miss Louisiana Pageant; Associate Member of the Home Builders Association; Monroe Chamber of Commerce; West Monroe Chamber of Commerce; Monroe Rotary Club; Associate Member of the Republicans’ Women’s Club; Judge Advocate, L.B. Faulk Post 13, The American Legion, 2013.
Dimos received numerous honors including the following: Jaycee’s Outstanding Young Man of the Twin Cities, 1971; One of the Jaycee’s Three Outstanding Young Men in LA, 1971; JCI Senator; Golden Arrow Award, Northeast Louisiana University, 1984; DAR Americanism Medal Recipient, 1985; Name chosen to be on the Honor Wall at Ellis Island, 1989, sponsored by the DAR; Inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame, 2017; Inducted into the Louisiana Judicial Hall of Fame, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Fanita Dimos and his Uncle George and Aunt Flora Crazovich.
His survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Dale Guilkey Dimos; Son, John Nicholas Dimos; Daughters, Laura Flynn and husband, Steve, Myra Zeringue and husband, Guy, III, and Christy Jones and husband, Jimmy; eight grandchildren, George Flynn, Elena Flynn, Eliza Zeringue, Mary Laura Zeringue, Paul Zeringue, Adele Zeringue, Casey Jones and Nicholas Jones; cousin, Tommy Crazovich and his wife, Lynn; and sister-in-law, Cindy Ridgway.
Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially playing his favorite card game from the “Old Country.” Throughout his career, he enjoyed meeting people and helping them in any way he could. Many friends said that Jimmy was living the "American Dream."
Pallbearers will be Tommy Crazovich, Steve Flynn, George Flynn, Jimmy Jones, Guy Zeringue and Paul Zeringue.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Brown, Tony Bruscato, Hunt Downer, David Erskine, Rob Garner, John Harrison, Fred King, Bob Kostelka, Les LaCroix and Charlie MacDonald.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
