Memorial services for Juanita Owen Hendricks, 94, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 14, 2018, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. Burial at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery was private.
Mrs. Hendricks was born March 5, 1923, in Florence, CO and passed away January 9, 2018, in Monroe, LA. Juanita was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church for over 60 years, and of the Thursday Prayer group at First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Louise McGuire Order of the Easter Star, and the Monroe China Painting Club. Juanita obtained a BS degree from NLU, now ULM, in 1958, graduating Magna Cum Laud, then followed that with a Master’s degree from LA Tech in 1962. Juanita retired from 1st Grade teaching at Riser Elementary in West Monroe. She was a member of the Louisiana Teachers Association and the National Education Association. After retirement, she and her husband, Moody, traveled extensively. After her husband’s passing, she continued traveling with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Jack Tripp.
Mrs. Hendricks was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Moody Hendricks; daughter, Sheryle Firenza; parents, C.B. and Agnes Dunn Owen; 4 brothers, Pres, Monroe, Boyd and Lee Owen.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Tripp and husband Jack of Taunton, MA; brother, Don Owen and wife Alice, of Irving, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer Ernst and husband Jim, of Palmer, TX; grandson, Jonathan Firenza, of Rowlett, TX; 2 great grandsons; son-in-law, Raymond Firenza, of Rowlett, TX; as well as special nephew, Gene Hendricks and wife Lil, of Claremont, NC; and companion and close friend, Barbara Beebe, of West Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM until service time, Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the funeral home.
