Services for Mr. J. T. Avery, 92, of West Monroe will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, with Rev. Josh Milliron officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Calhoun, LA.Mr. Avery died at Glenwood Hospital on July 18, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born on November 30, 1922 in Chatham, LA and is a veteran of WWII serving as a Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy from July, 1942 to October, 1945. Mr. Avery was a retired deputy sheriff of Ouachita Parish after 31 years of service. Prior to his joining the OPSO he worked for the F B I and Monroe Police Dept. Mr. Avery is a member of McGuire Methodist Church where he worshipped with all his friends and church family.Mr. Avery and his wife enjoyed square dancing prior to his retirement and later traveling all over the country. He also enjoyed bowling for years, but he most liked playing bridge at both the Monroe and West Monroe senior centers with all his friends. But yet again if anyone was looking for J.T. all they had to do was go to Glenwood Mall where he would be walking.Survivors include daughter, Patti Robideaux; sister, Mrs. Mary Francis Lively and husband, Leonard; grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Tharpe, Sammy Chris and Christine Brewster, Jennifer and Caley Joyner, and Jeremy Robideaux; five great-grandchildren, Michaela, Shelby, Aiden, Samuel, and Bella; a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.Mr. Avery was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Avery; daughter, Judy Brewster; parents John and Mary Avery; brothers, Earl, Leroy, Leslie, and Floyd; sisters, Maureen, Gladys, and Adeline.Pallbearers will be Bill Loughlin, C.D. (Buddy) Griggs, Andy Long, Harold LaGrone, Joe Daniel, and Steve Nipper.Honorary pallbearers are the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office.Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McGuire United Methodist Church, 2075 Arkansas Road, West Monroe, LA 71291 (their choice of fund).The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff of Gamble Hospice Service.Online Registry/Condolences: www.mulhearnfuneralhome.comArrangements under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
