Funeral services for Joseph Paul Piro, 81, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Rev. Job Edathinatt, Rev. Richard Norsworthy, and Deacon Scott Brandle officiating. Interment will follow at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.Mr. Piro died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Ridgecrest Community Care Center. He retired as a Purchasing Agent with the City of Monroe. Mr. Piro was a veteran of the Korean War and served his country as a SGT. in the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Third Degree and Past Grand Knight of the Knight of Columbus Council 1337. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the Fourth Degree Assembly 329 and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Piro attended and was an altar server for St. Matthew Catholic Church until he was 71 years old and received the Bishop’s Diocesan Medal of Honor. Mr. Piro was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Ida Lena Anzelmo Piro; and his second wife of 7 years, Gloria Minton Piro.Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Piro; son, Paul Piro and wife Amy; son, Joseph Piro and wife Kellye; step-children, Michael Cotita, Glenn Cotita, Randy Cotita, Tim Cotita; grandchild, Joey Piro; step-grandchild, Amber McCormick; and his sister, Doris and husband Michael Haas.Pallbearers will be Tim Cotita, George Carso, Tony Tramontana, Marc Fandal, Robert Guerriero and Scott Bunkley.Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Vigil and Rosary at 6:00 PM, Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.The family would like to extend a special thanks to the numerous doctors, nurses and care providers for their love and care of Mr. Joseph.Memorials may be made to the ULM Catholic Campus Ministries.Online Registry/Condolences: www.mulhearnfuneralhome.comMulhearn Funeral HomeSterlington RoadMonroe, LA
