Joseph Nicholas “Joe” Sutton, age 78, left his worldly home to go to his heavenly home on January 26, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Joe was born on March 21, 1938 in Monroe, LA. He graduated from West Monroe High School in 1956; he attended Louisiana Tech, and retired from Louisiana Power and Light Company (Entergy) after over 40 years of service. Joe was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, serving as an usher. He also served in the National Guard. Joe and Rosie were avid travelers having traveled most of the United States, especially Georgia, the home state of his father. Joe was very big hearted, so generous and cared for so many others along with giving friends and relatives Oak Grove tomatoes, Georgia peanuts and peaches, Vidalia onions, Tickfaw strawberries, peas, corn and anything else he could find to buy for others. Who can forget the wonderful cakes he brought to us all? He will be greatly missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Anderson Sutton; his father, Joseph N. Sutton, Sr.; his lifelong companion, Rosie Joiner; his special person in his life, John Ann Painich Anderson.
Survivors include his cousins, Pat H. Anderson and Martha, Merry Ann Bonin and Paul of Monroe, Charles Van Zile and Tinker of West Monroe, Jimmy Van Zile and Janet of Myrtle Beach, SC, Robert B. Anderson, Ann Anderson Blumer and Fred of Wernersville, PA, Shirley Anderson, Steven C. Anderson, and Brian C. Anderson of Memphis, TN; as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Joe had a special relationship with Rose Joiner’s family members including, Bruce and Rebecca (Becky) Frost, along with their families and many other relatives, all of whom loved Joe dearly and cared for him much of his life, especially toward the end.
Pallbearers will be the ushers of First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, David Cox, Jerry Sikes, Jerry Arledge, Van Westbrook, Bob McClure, Lee Beard, Steve Best and Gary Puckett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Neil Willet, Dale Browder, F.B. David, Butch Dupuy and Pete Guiterrez.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. William Smith, Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, Janice and Alexis and all of his sitters and caretakers.
