Services for Mr. Joseph Francis Southwell of Monroe will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Very Rev. Peter B. Mangum officiating. Burial will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Southwell died Wednesday, July 19, 2023. He was born November 17, 1951, at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans. He moved to Ouachita Parish with his family in 1952. After he graduated from Neville High School in 1970, he attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., then transferred to the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He later graduated from Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in 1978 in Houston.
He worked for nearly 40 years at Mulhearn Funeral Home working as a mortician, funeral director and selling life insurance. He was also a member of the Monroe Jaycees and ACTS.
Friends since junior high school, Joe and Linda reunited after more than 50 years at the 45th reunion of Neville’s Class of 1970, also celebrating their 65th birthdays.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Southwell; sons, Zack Southwell and wife, Terri, Bo Carter and wife Nicole, Kade Carter and wife, Amanda; daughters, Kasady Southwell and Malynn Smith; grandchildren, Kameron Givens, Lizzie Southwell, Ryan Southwell, Cole Carter, Elle Carter, Max Carter, Caroline Carter, Chloe Carter, Carson Smith and Carter Smith; great grandson, Waylon Givens; sister, Ann Southwell; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Kayla Johnson, Peni Armstrong, Dan and Emery Wood, Carl and Virginia Herrington; and numerous nieces and nephews he loved.
He was preceded in death by parents, Jacqueline Southwell and Floyd Southwell, and grandparents, Velma Rodwig, Francis Rodwig, Lillian Southwell, and Joseph Southwell.
The visitation will be Friday, July 21, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a vigil at 6:00 P.M. at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Tichenor, Cary Zeagler, John Robinson, David Johnson, Dan Wood, Bo Carter, Kade Carter, David Smith, Glen Taylor, Kenny Dorsey, and Jimmy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Mulhearn, Mike Mulhearn, Michael Mulhearn, Butch Mulhearn, Shelly Holloway, Gus Antis, Brandy Remington, Stephanie Hibbard, Mark McKenzie, Jerry Bartleson and Tom Rodwig.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Frederick High School or Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic School.
