Joseph Stuart Fontaine of Cypress, Texas passed away on June 19, 2023, at the age of 82 with his beloved wife, Joyce Lane Martin Fontaine by his side.
Joe was born on July 24, 1940, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Stuart Joseph Fontaine and Marie Anne Lefleche Fontaine. In the early 1950s, he moved to Southern California but never lost his New England roots.
While in California, he worked as a cowboy in the San Gabriel Mountains before studying chemistry at the University of Denver and serving in the United States Army.
Joe was a car enthusiast and avid racer, pilot, archaeologist, and explorer who developed a lifelong love for the deserts of the American Southwest and Baja, California.
After his career brought him to the Gulf Coast, Joe and Joyce met and fell in love in her home state of Louisiana where they lived together before relocating to Texas in 1995. Together they built J & J Collectables and traveled the country selling gemstones and minerals, along with handmade jewelry designed by Joe himself.
Joe was a deeply spiritual man who loved God above all else. Having personally experienced Christian charity from several key people in his early life, he dedicated himself to the service of others by offering a helping hand in times of need.
Joe is survived by Joyce, his loving wife of 39 years; his sons, Michael Joseph (Mary) Fontaine, Matthew Stuart (Kathryn) Fontaine both of Denver, Colorado, and Marc Louis (Paige) Fontaine of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by Bruce Edward Auttonberry of West Monroe, Louisiana, and Gregory Wayne Auttonberry of Campti, Louisiana. Together Joe and Joyce are the loving grandparents of 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his two sisters, Anne Marie Ragland of West Covina, California and Margaret Yvonne Judd of Costa Mesa, California; and his stepdaughter Sondra Lynn Auttenberry (Kevin) Cummings of West Monroe, Louisiana.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at Mulhearn Funeral Home on McMillan Road in West Monroe, Louisiana, followed by interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
