Joseph F. Pitarro, Jr.

Mr. Joseph F. Pitarro, Jr. was born on April 18, 1943, in Monroe LA, and passed away at age 77, Saturday, July 25, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 10:00 am, at St. Matthews Catholic Church Cemetery with Father Paul Thunduparampil and Deacon Bill Goss officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe.

Chief Joe F. Pitarro, Jr. was a passionate and devoted firefighter for 38 years and retired as District Fire Chief with the City of Monroe in 2000. Chief was a man of many talents from being a heartfelt breathtaking poet and photographer to being an astonishing creative inventor and wood craftsman. He enjoyed traveling and exploring nature along with deer hunting and making Italian sausage with his family.

Survivors include his children, Cammy, Chad, Lil' Joe, Michael, and Daphne; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sister, Netty O'Bier (Don); brothers, Charles Pitarro, Steve Pitarro (Jennifer), and Mike Pitarro; numerous nephews and nieces.

Mr. Pitarro is preceded in death by his parents, Captain Fire Chief Joseph F. Pitarro, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Danna Pitarro; sisters, Fran Russo, Rita Roberts and brother, Sal Pitarro.

Chief J.F. Pitarro, Jr. will receive a formal firefighter funeral served by pallbearers, District Fire Chief Jeff O'Bier, District Fire Chief Allen Gary, District Fire Chief Scott Lovelady, Fire Captain John Carr, Jr.,Fire Captain Scott Thomas, and Fire Training Officer Greg Hill.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired former firefighter brothers and members of the City of Monroe Fire Department.

The Pitarro family would like to give sincere thanks to Sue Pitarro, Jamie Cormier, Jody O'Bier, Christina Sendejas, Michelle Taylor, Donald Shaw, Sr. and to Fire Station #3 brothers for the love, care and help given to Chief J.F. Pitarro, Jr.
