Joseph Eugene (Butch) Dupuy, 80, a devoted husband and father, CEO of Dupuy Flooring and Acoustical, died on July 12, 2018 in West Monroe, Louisiana. Butch will be remembered most for his unselfish love and devotion to his family and friends.
Butch was born October 1, 1937, in Pensacola, Florida. In 1950 he moved to Monroe, LA and graduated from Neville High School in 1956, where he played on Neville’s first championship football team in 1955. He attended Louisiana Tech University, studying Business Administration, where he met his wife Polly. Following his time at Louisiana Tech, he served in the United States Army. In 1960, he went to work for his family at J.E. Dupuy Flooring and Acoustical, Inc., where he grew the business to the foundation of what it is today until his retirement.
Butch was an avid golfer, hunter and sportsman. As a member of Calvert Crossing Golf Club, he could often be found enjoying the game of golf with his many friends. When not on the golf course, he was either tending his extensive garden, having routine lunches with friends, working out at the Glenwood Wellness Center or attending his grandchildren’s many sporting events. Butch was an active member of the West Monroe Rebel Club, Neville Alumni & Friends Association and Cut Off Hunting Club. Since its inception, Butch was very proud to serve on the Committee for the Ruple-Brown golf tournament for Neville High School which raises money for student athletes.
Butch loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and his community. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of West Monroe where he was part of the Ila McConnell Sunday School Class and was an usher on Sunday mornings. He faithfully served on various church committees and participated in Evangelism Explosion, Walk to Emmaus, and Epiphany Ministry for Incarcerated Youth at Swanson Correctional Center.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Polly Riser Dupuy; his son Stanley Dupuy and wife Susan; his daughter Amy Kirkland and husband R. Neill; and his daughter-in-law Jacinda Dupuy; all of West Monroe; his brother Tom (Tuck) Dupuy and wife Gail; and his two sisters Joan Davis and fiancé Joe Martin and Leisa Dupuy and fiancé Rob Stevenson III; brother-in-law Fred Riser and wife Charlotte; and Stephen Riser and wife Pam. He was known as Papaw to his grandchildren Daniel Dupuy and wife Katie; Rebecca Casola and husband Deano; Mary Grace and Laura Katherine Dupuy; and Joey and Elise Kirkland. He was the Godfather of Lori Marshall and husband Jim and had many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Butch was preceded in death by his parents J.E. Dupuy Sr. and Mary Stanley Dupuy, and his son Stephen Dupuy.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of West Monroe, LA with Rev. Jon Tellifero, Dr. Mark Fenn, and Rev. Shawn Hornsby officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, July 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Dupuy, Joey Kirkland, Deano Casola, Pat Anderson, Glen Bassett, Neill S. Kirkland, Rick Ray, Daniel Lenard, Kenny Guillot, Drew Kennedy, Brett Hortman, Toby Danna, Rick Powell, Ellis Felter, A.W. Cascio, Billy Jefferson, Robert Bryant, Jerald Creel, Pat Kennedy and Mike Conway. Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Dupuy Flooring.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church West Monroe, Mercy Multiplied or Epiphany Ministries at First United Methodist Church.
