Jose “Pepe” Demetrio Rodrigo Loayza, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home the morning of November 14, 2017. He was born in Oruro, Bolivia December 22, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Margarita Rodrigo Loayza; and his brother, Carlos Antonio Loayza. He is survived by his wife, Maria “Lulu” Sanudo Loayza; his children, David Alexander Loayza, Frances Elizabeth Loayza Whittington, Margaret Melissa Loayza, Marco Sanudo Loayza; and his sister, Maria Juana “Jean” Loayza; and a very large extended family who loved him dearly.
Pepe attended Oklahoma University and graduated as a Mechanical Engineer. This brought him to Monroe where he worked at Ford, Bacon & Davis, and then Olinkraft which offered him a transfer opportunity to Otacilio Costa, Brasil where he remained for several years. Upon his return to Monroe, he continued with Olinkraft which eventually became Manville.
He was an active member of the Monroe Rotary Club. He worshiped at Grace Episcopal Church and helped the church and its congregation grow in many ways by serving as a Eucharistic Minister, serving on the vestry, and working on the building committee. He was an active volunteer in many facets of the community, such as The Little Theater, meals on wheels, and many others. His hobbies included horseback riding, wood working, cooking and being involved in the community, making friends and helping people.
A small service was held at Grace Episcopal Church Thursday, November 16, 2017, where his ashes were laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity.
