JoMarie Scalia Etier

Funeral services for JoMarie Scalia Etier, 81, will be held at Jesus The Good Shepherd Church in Monroe on Thursday, July 3rd, at 2 PM. Services will be officiated by Reverend David Richter, Reverend Job Edathinatt and Reverend Edmund Moore. Interment will follow after
at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Noon to 1:30 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, La.

JoMarie was born in Monroe, LA on July 4, 1932 and died on June 30, 2014.

She had been a resident at Christus St. Joseph’s Nursing Home since January 2012. She struggled with Parkinson’s Disease for the last ten years of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents James & Mary Scalia, and by her husband Waymon Etier. She is survived by her children: Donna Marie McDonald and her husband Rick; James Wayne Etier and his fiancé Cathy Cagle, Mark Kevin Etier and his wife Sonya. She also leaves behind her sister Linda Scalia and her brother James P. Scalia, Jr. and his wife Gwen.

She has 5 grandchildren: Ashley Etier Hayden and her husband Josh, Austin Etier, Rick McDonald, Jr. and his wife Pamela; Christina McDonald Thompson and her husband Trey and Elliot Etier.

She has five great grandchildren: Conner, Lily Claire and Madi McDonald, Dawson Thompson and Kayne Etier. She has one nephew, James P. Scalia, III and his wife Stuart and a niece Toni and her husband Robert Draughn.

She was a long time member of Jesus The Good Shepherd Church and a member of the church choir for many years.

JoMarie graduated from St. Matthew Catholic High School in 1950 and then attended Northeast Jr. College for 2 years. She married Waymon Etier in 1953 and they were together for 31 years until he died in 1984. She was a stay at home mom for several years raising her 3 children. Later she went to work for the City of Monroe and worked in the Tax Office and later the purchase department. She retired after 28 years with the city. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

As a young woman she took piano and voice lessons and had a beautiful soprano voice. She was asked to sing for many local weddings. Later in life she took painting and became an accomplished painter. After retirement she volunteered at the Blood Bank and at St. Vincent’s Pharmacy.

A special thank you goes to all the staff at Christus St. Joseph’s Nursing Home for their loving care of JoMarie. Thanks also to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice program who provided extra special attention and care during the last years of her life.
