Memorial services for Johnny Wayne Sims, 61, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday January 29, 2011 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Bobby Porter and Tom Gilley officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army. The Patriot Guard will lead the funeral procession to the Am Vets Post # 66 at 2915 Armand St. in Monroe for a gathering of family and friends.
Mr. Sims died January 25, 2010 at the St. Francis Medical Center.
Mr. Sims was a decorated United State Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. He received the following awards: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal w/1, Bronze Service Star, Combat Medical Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm Unit Citation Badge, Sharpshooter Badge w/rifle Bar. Johnny was a retired City Carrier with the United States Postal Service.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Joe Sims, sister, Sharon Davenport, and brothers, Aubrey Lee Sims and David Joe Sims
Survivors: his wife, Debra T. Sims; sons, John Derek Sims
and Travis Sims; daughter, Denise Sims; Step-son, Jeb Slade; Grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Sims, Jordan Mlynn Sims, Zackory Norman Gilbert; Mother, Mrs. Maxine Sims; Brother, Steve Sims and wife, Faye; Sister-in-law, Bonnie Sims and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Derek Sims, Darren Sims, Bret Sims, Jeb Slade, David Wayne Sims, Tom Gilley, Shannon Morris, Ronza Edmondson, Paul Guess and Carl Hemphill.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. Saturday until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank, Am Vets Post # 66 or the Ouachita Parish Humane Society.
