John R. “Buddy” Eunson, 88, of Monroe, went to his heavenly Father on February 17, 2103, at 7:10 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church with The Rev. Frank Hughes and The Rev. Gregg Riley officiating. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Buddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born in Wausau, WI on April 24, 1924 to Alice Margaret Nestor and Ralph Royce Eunson. He moved with the family to Sterlington, LA when he was eight years old. Buddy graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and entered the Marine Corps (air services) where he served four years. Returning home he entered LSU and graduated in 1950. He met and married his wife Roberta in 1948. Buddy loved his church and through the years worked as Acolyte minister under Father John Allen, served on the Vestry, was a lay reader, and usher. He received recognition for his work on the United Way and with his work with Dr. Oshner of New Orleans, and was formerly a member of Rotary Club.
Buddy spent 20 enjoyable years raising quarter horses and was President of the Ouachita Parish Quarter Horse Club more than once. He worked for 25 years in the automobile business with his father-in-law, “Sticky” Steele, and then he ran his own retail store. After he retired, he worked for Sam Rubin for 11 years.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Paula Finley Steele and F.N. “Sticky” Steele; his sister and brother-in-law, Alice Lorraine Eunson Gregg and Bruce F. Gregg, Sr.; and nephew, Bruce F. Gregg, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Roberta; his sons, John Steele Eunson and William Cole Eunson; daughter, Paula Frances Eunson West; his grandchildren, Melissa Eunson Young and husband Neal, Victoria Frances (Tori) Eunson and Mike, John Steele Eunson, Jr. (Jay), Christopher Travis Eunson, and Scott Wesley Eunson; great grandchildren, Niles Patrick Young, Canon Donald Young, and Michael James Dugan, Jr.; his nieces, Leigh Taylor Gregg and sons, Gregg and Russell and his family; Lorraine Gregg McKinney and husband Larry and their daughters Meredith and Bonnie McKinney Graves, her husband Lee and daughter Anabeth; his nephew, Gordon Gregg and his wife Billie and daughters, Natalie and Abby.
Pallbearers will be Ford Pipes, Wil Chapman, Eddie Andrews, Neal Young, Jay Eunson, Niles Young, and Jim Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles F. North, Scott Eunson, Travis Eunson, Canon Young, Mike Dugan, Carl Tidwell, Edwin Theus, Donnie West, Jean Andrews, N. T. Andrews, Charles North, JR., Forrest North, and John Price.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 PM until service time at Grace Episcopal Church in Kilbourne Hall.
Memorials may be made to Louisiana Horse Rescue in Many, LA or the Alzheimer’s Association.
