John James Hemrick

John James Hemrick of Monroe, Louisiana, was born 12/19/1942 and died 10/30/2020 at the age of 77 after a lengthy illness. John was born and raised in Peru, Indiana. He graduated from Purdue University in 1966 and Florida State University in 1969 with his Juris Doctorate degree. John was a trial attorney for the Federal Trade Commission in New Orleans, LA. and was promoted to Assistant Regional Director of the Federal Trade Commission in Dallas, Texas from 1971-1978. John and his family moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1978 when he became the Corporate Attorney for Olin Kraft (now Graphic Packaging). He retired from Graphic Packaging in 2006. John was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and a member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, where he served on the Board of Directors. John volunteered at Monroe Symphony Book Sale for many years. His favorite hobbies were fishing, golf, and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Talbot Hemrick of Monroe. He is survived by his four children: daughter Meredith Hemrick Greer and son-in-law Michael Greer, formerly of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son Talbot Hemrick and daughter-in-law Jenny Hemrick of League City, Texas; son Jamie Hemrick of Monroe; and son Ryan Hemrick and daughter-in-law Miranda Scalia Hemrick of Monroe and his 11 grandchildren: Will Greer, Hays Greer, Michael Talbot Greer, Thomas Hemrick, Ben Hemrick, Jack Hemrick, Maggie Hemrick, George Hemrick, Sosie Hemrick, Ellery Hemrick and Rhodes Hemrick. John is also survived by his sister, Sally Hemrick Mooney and brother-in-law Rick Mooney of Peru, Indiana, nephews Kirk Mooney and Rick Mooney and niece Mary Ann Mooney Honn and husband Donnie and numerous great-nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Mary Alice Hemrick of Peru, Indiana.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Mulhearn’s Funeral Home in Monroe. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 2 at 10:00 AM at Jesus, the Good Shepherd Church in Monroe. Pallbearers will be Michael Greer, Dr. Don Marx, Ken Williams, Jim Cuthbert, Charles Taylor and James Scalia. The family would like to thank Dr. David Barnes, Dr. Emile Barrow, Michelle Robinson, RN, Angie, RN and the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice and French Smith, Brad Smith and the staff of Reliant Healthcare for their care of their husband, father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to the American Heart Association.
