John Franklin “Trey” Kelso III

Surrounded by his family, Trey passed away on November 17, 2018, in Aventura, FL. Trey was born in Monroe, LA on February 14, 1967, to John F. Kelso, Jr. and Vera Smith Kelso.
Trey is survived by his sons, John Nolan Kelso and Matthew Grayson Kelso of Richmond, VA; his sisters, Georgia Price Beaty of Auburn, AL, Lisa Kelso LeBlanc and husband, Ted, of Kingwood, TX, and Nancy Anne Kelso and fiancé, Steve McCullough, of Tyler, TX; his nieces and nephews, Douglas M. Tinsley, Jr., Courtney K. Tinsley, Bailey R. Finninger, Karley C. Finninger, Price Beaty and John Kelso “Jack” Tinsley, as well as his uncles, aunts and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John F. Kelso, Jr. and Vera Smith Kelso; and his grandparents, John F. Kelso, Sr. and Ruth G. Kelso and Robert C. Smith, Sr. and Corene W. Smith.
He was a graduate of River Oaks School in Monroe, LA and Louisiana State University.
Trey was a new resident in the N. Miami Beach area, after recently moving from Midlothian, VA, to invest in and begin a new career. He was excited about this move, both personally and professionally, and looked forward to contributing his talents to this venture, as well as living near the ocean that would provide him with plenty of opportunity to enjoy fishing and boating.
Trey’s career began in college with Premier Bank and then transitioned to Bank of America after he graduated. He capitalized on this experience when he was hired by LendingTree.com to join its original software development team.
Prior to his move to Florida, Trey served as Sr. Vice President, Architecture and Innovation, at Virginia Credit Union (VACU). He was well known throughout the national credit union industry and made significant contributions in this field as a creative software developer, data analytics expert and thought leader. He played a principal role in ensuring the success of VACU receiving recognition and rewards in the financial services field from CIO and Gartner, Inc.
His hobbies included golf, fishing, hunting, snow skiing, cooking, music and cheering on his LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints.
A Celebration of New Life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA, on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be conducted by Reverend Jim and Reverend Jo Popham. Visitation will be held prior to the service in Kilbourne Hall at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.
Trey’s family is very grateful for the prayers and concern offered by so many during this difficult time.
