Funeral services for Mr. John Francis Savage, 92, of Monroe, LA will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 23, 2017, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Fr. Matthew Long officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Savage passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his children. Mr. Savage was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family was the most important thing in his life.
Mr. Savage served as Lieutenant Jr. Grade in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After an honorable discharge, he returned to LSU, where he met his future wife, Caroline O’Brien. He graduated with a degree in Accounting and returned to Monroe to join the CPA firm started by his father. He was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. John was a founding member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Parish, and a long-time member of Bayou DeSiard Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf most of his life. Many happy moments were spent at the Papaw Patch farm where they raised Paso Fino horses.
Mr. Savage was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Caroline; parents, Walter S. Savage, Sr. & Theria Darby Savage; brother, Walter S. Savage, Jr.; sister, Mary Savage Hart; and daughter, Darby Savage. “Papaw” is survived by his children, Kathi Savage, Sue Savage Bohac, Mike Savage, Sandy Savage, Patti Savage, Aimee Savage Anthony and husband David, Caroline Savage Cascio and husband Rodney; grandchildren, Chris Bohac and wife Jamie, Jenni Bohac Adams and husband Jim Bob, Patrick Savage and wife Holly, Brian Savage, Stephen Anthony and wife Jere’, Lindsey Anthony, John Cascio, Katherine Cascio; and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by loving members of the Hart and O’Brien families and special friends, Evelyn “Tiny” Hall and Steve & Sallie Sutherland.
Pallbearers will be Chris Bohac, Patrick Savage, Stephen Anthony, Brian Savage, John Cascio, and Jim Bob Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ralph King, John Ensminger, Sr., Joey McGinn, and Sgt. Joseph Bailey Sutherland.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice and his devoted caregivers.
Visitation will 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, October 22, 2017, and a Vigil Wake Service at 5:30 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd, Monroe.
