Funeral services for John Charles Burdine, 87, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2011, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Pastor John Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Burdine was born June 27, 1923 in Gulfport, MS and died Friday, June 24, 2011, in Monroe, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian Burdine; and sister, Evelyn Fowler; all of Sterlington, LA.
Mr. Burdine was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific and he was also retired from Tennessee Gas in West Monroe, LA. He was a former president of the West Monroe Civitan’s and was active in the West Monroe HAM Radio Club. Mr. Burdine loved his family and his friends. He loved a good joke, he loved to laugh, he loved good food, and he loved his country.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Rose Burdine; two daughters, Jody Burdine and Kristin Cupp and son-in-law, Steve Cupp; one grandson, Michael D. Statham and wife Kristy; great grandson, John Parker Statham; brother, Wesley D. Burdine and wife Peggy of Benton, LA; sister, Ruth Carbon of Franklin, PA; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Staley, Greg McGough, Adam McGee, Josh Riggin, Mike Necaise, and Steve Cupp. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Statham, and members of the West Monroe HAM Radio Club.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
