Visitation for Jimmy Ray Hobson, 81, of Sterlington will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Sterlington, LA. Visitation will start at 2:00 P.M. and the services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Services will be under the direction of Bro. Ben Hackler, Bro. Dennis Hackler, and Bro. Victor Carter.
Jimmy was born August 16, 1939 on the Ouachita River in Sterlington, Louisiana to John and Elsie Hobson. He lost his battle with cancer on May 26, 2021. Jimmy worked for Ryan Chevrolet until he retired at the age of 72. Jimmy had a passion for the Lord and was a faithful member and servant at First Baptist Church of Sterlington where he served as a youth minister, Sunday school teacher and deacon. In his spare time, he also loved to watch and cheer on the Sterlington High School Football team and rarely missed a game until his illness would not allow him to attend. Jimmy loved his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents John and Elsie Hobson; wife, Bobbie Roberson Hobson; brother, JE Hobson and wife Omie; sister, Judith Carter; grandson, Josh Crow and his faithful sidekick Daisy.
He is survived by his son, John Hobson and wife Lori; daughter, Jennifer Thomason and husband Rickey; granddaughters, Whitney Benton and husband Jared, Julie Ann Nowlin and husband Matt, Tabitha Reynolds and husband Bobby, Julia Barmore; grandsons, Cody Hobson, Hunter Hobson; great grandchildren, Brody, Bentlee and Beaux Benton, Daniel Nowlin, Ragan, Shelby-Grace, Hank and Riggs Reynolds, Sarah-Kate and Addie Barmore; sisters, Patsy Slaton and husband Searcy, Darlene Carter and husband Larry; brothers, Tommy Hobson and wife Diane, Jerry Hobson and wife Cathy, Ronnie Hobson and wife Rose, Reggie Hobson and wife Debra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy or Papa to his grandkids will be missed dearly by his beloved family and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Cathy Barr who cared for both their parents and is loved dearly. The VA home based primary care and Caring Hands Hospital for the care they provided for their dad. Jerry Haynes who was loved and cherished as if he was his son.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials be made to the Sterlington High School Football program as this was something he loved and supported.
