Jerry Lee Lindsay

March 23, 1941 — September 17, 2021

Jerry Lee Lindsay passed away on 9/17/2021 at Landmark South Nursing Center in Baton Rouge at the age of 80, after a battle with an auto-immune neuropathy condition.

Mr. Lindsay graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a BS in Math Education and later a Master’s plus 30 in Math Education. He taught high school Math and Physics for 40 years, mostly at Wossman High School in Monroe. He also drove a school bus all these years, never retiring, since it was very important to him to maintain a constant working routine. Finally, he delivered newspapers for 39 years starting at age 10. He was well known in so many areas of Monroe’s community touching the lives of his children, his students, and his neighborhood delivering the news every day for so many years. As a father, he advised his children to complete their formal education, work hard, save for the future, and create an independent and self-reliant family. He was devoted to his wife Carolyn for 35 years, striving together to model and teach their children Christian values. Jerry and Carolyn especially enjoyed traveling on a cruise every summer, taking the whole family to the beach, and being at every one of their children’s ball games or school events. After Carolyn passed away in 1997, he spent many wonderful years with his girlfriend and constant companion, Lanelle Crooks. They created many adventures together traveling, being a part of their children’s lives, and living their best life together. Jerry and his family will always be grateful that he had such a loving, intelligent, and active partner to live what he described as the “happiest time in my life”.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Dr. Carolyn Lindsay; Father, Willie Lindsay; Mother, Pearl Thompson; Stepmother, Lyda Lindsay; Brother, Howard Lindsay; Daughter, Ann Lindsay Avery.

He is survived by his three sons, Chris Lindsay of Baton Rouge; Craig Lindsay and wife, Candice of Baton Rouge; Lee Lindsay and wife, Lauren of Houston, TX; Brothers, Steve Lindsay and wife, Carolyn of Mobile, AL; Stanley Thompson and wife, Christine of Sardis, SC; Sisters, Earleen Thompson of West Monroe; Georgia Miller of Calhoun; grandchildren, Luke, Cameron, Miriam, Levi, Micah, Cole, Melody, & Maggie Lindsay, Grace Lindsay, Carolyn Avery; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him deeply.
