Jerry G. Smith

September 20, 1942 — December 29, 2021

Graveside services for Jerry Nubles Smith, 79, will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2021, at 2:00PM at McKnight Cemetery in Holly Ridge, LA.
Jerry was born in Texarkana, AR, on September 20, 1942, and passed away on December 29, 2021, in Monroe, LA.
Jerry was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, LA, where she attended services until her dementia was so bad that she could no longer follow along. She really missed her church family.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Raymond Nubles; daughter, Danielle Nubles Summerhill; grandson, Billy E. (BJ) Nubles; granddaughter, Victoria Gale Myers; parents, Daniel Hardy Skinner and Elizabeth Raye Sullivan Skinner; sister, Donna Teston; brother, Daniel Hardy Skinner, Jr.; and friend, Harry Collins.
Jerry is survived by sons, Billy Eugene Nubles and Raymond Todd Nubles; daughter, Denaira Dawn Nubles; granddaughters, Kathryn (Katie) Nubles, Mary-Ellen Summerhill, and Bailey Whitaker; great grandson, Denver Chase Summerhill; niece, Lisa Teston; daughter-in-law, Lynda Alderman; brother-in-law, Harold B. Nubles; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Vince Roussin; and very dear friends, Denise Franklin and family and Glenda Miller; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who all loved her.
Jerry moved around quite a bit during her childhood through her teenage years, and she attended many different schools. She often talked about her time in Monterey, LA, and going to West Monroe, but she graduated from Ruston High School in 1960. After graduation, her father encouraged some of his co-workers to come calling on his daughter, to which Jerry replied, “Don’t be bringing your brick-laying friends here; I don’t want anything to do with them.” Then Billy Raymond Nubles knocked on the door, and it was love at first sight. They were married two weeks later and spent the next 40 years together until he passed away.
Jerry and Billy raised four children together, and Jerry loved helping with their grandchildren, taking great pride in each of them. She beamed with pride when she saw Katie’s college diploma just days before she passed. She adored all her grandchildren.
Jerry had a variety of jobs in her life; she worked in retail, sold Tupperware, and sold real estate. She had her own daycare and worked in accounting at St. Francis North Monroe and Monroe Surgical hospitals. She always said that her most rewarding job was working at North Monroe Baptist Church Daycare, working with 2- and 3-year-old children. She could still recognize them today.
Jerry is rejoicing in heaven with family members long gone. We as her children and grandchildren take comfort in that. We know she is no longer suffering.
Mom, when you were here on earth you were the star that guided us through life, and we know you will continue to guide us by the light of your star in heaven.
A memorial service for Jerry Nubles Smith will be held at a later date.
May God bless you. Rest in peace.
