Funeral services for Jeannette Peltier Deney will be held graveside at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS on 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 27, 2013.
Jeannette was born on June 14, 1924 in Avery Island, LA and passed away November 22, 2013 at Avalon Nursing Center in Monroe, LA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Eldridge John Courrege of New Iberia, LA and Leonard Joseph Deney of Rochester, NY; her parents, Enola David Peltier and Adam Joseph Peltier of New Iberia, LA; and her sisters, Joyce Peltier Lungaro of Lake Charles, LA and Ruth Peltier Landry and husband Henry David of New Iberia, LA.
Jeannette was a feisty, strong-willed, 5 foot Cajun who enjoyed boiled crabs, cooking, gardening, dancing and her 5 o’clock cocktail. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class and Mardi Gras and Homecoming Queen in New Iberia. She had many admirers of her authentic “Cajun” cuisine. She was an avid New Orleans Saints and Archie Manning fan even when they were known as the “Aints.” Jeannette enjoyed attending Saints games and the French Quarter festivals with her sisters and their husbands. She enjoyed being a navy wife which allowed her to live in many coastal locations in the United States. Christmas was often spent on board aircraft carriers.
Jeannette is survived by her sister, Gerry Delahoussaye and husband Charles of New Iberia, LA; brother-in-law, Anthony Lungaro of Lake Charles, LA; son, Leonard Joseph Deney and wife Elaine of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Gina Marie Deney of West Chester, PA; daughter, Carol Deney Hanks and husband Bruce of Monroe, LA; granddaughter, Jamie Allison Hanks of Baton Rouge, LA; grandsons, William Adam Hanks of Monroe, LA and David Townsend Hanks of Los Angeles, CA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
A very special heartfelt thanks to the staff and family of Avalon Nursing Center for their compassionate love and care shown to our mother. We would also like to thank Premier Hospice, the Congregational Care Committee of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and Barbara Hamilton and her family for their special care and support.
