A memorial service will be held for Jean Newell Holloway at First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, LA on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jon Tellifero officiating. Visitation will be held at the church preceding the service, beginning at 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe.
Jean was born March 2, 1927, in Chickasaw, Louisiana, to John Lawson and Janie Meek Newell and passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 91.
Jean was a homemaker and also worked a number of years at J C Penney. She will be remembered for her many generous acts, including the delicious Christmas candy trays that she shared with her family and friends. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Layton Holloway; her daughter-in-law, Jackie Alford Holloway; sisters, Jewell McDowell, Retha Layton, Eula Mae Harper, and Rosa Lee Maxwell; and brothers, Edward Newell, J L Newell, and J I Newell.
She is survived by her three sons, James and Rodney of Monroe, and Wayne and his wife, Grace, of Jonesborough, TN. Also surviving her are her granddaughters and their families - Amy Uffman, and her husband Connor, and their 5 children, Ella, William, Audrey Grace, Amelie, and Charlotte; Staci Figueroa and her husband Joe; Mandi Bloodworth, and her husband Trent, and their daughter Evie; and Holly Holloway and her son, Rory Griffin.
Pallbearers will be Keith Maxwell, Roger Maxwell, Frank Nettles, Scott Nettles, Scott Thompson, and Kyle Hill.
