Funeral services celebrating the life of Jean Browne Davis, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be at 11:00 AM Monday, June 4, 2018, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Mabray officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Monday at the church. Interment will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, LA. Jean died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the Health Center at The Oaks of Louisiana. Jean was born in New Orleans, LA, on September 11, 1928. After she attended McGehee’s High School and Newcomb College, she married Dr. Henry Davis, Jr. on November 20, 1948. In 1958, they moved from New Orleans to Monroe, LA, where they would raise their family.
Jean was very active in Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was involved in numerous civic organizations including Chapter AE PEO. Jean was a sensitive, compassionate lover of life. In her love for the natural world, she traveled to many parts of it. Her family, her faith, and the beauty of the world were the inspiration for her poetry and her life. Her poems are a reflection of her ability to see the infinite story and joy in the smallest details of life.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Henry H. Davis, Jr.; her parents, Dr. Donovan C. Browne and Mathilde Elizabeth Hanna Browne; her sisters, Dona Browne Wicker Morris and Elizabeth Hanna Browne Fouts.
Survivors include her children, Henry H. (Jack) Davis, III and wife Ann, Diane D. Shaver and husband Bill, Carol Gamble and fiancé Dr. Corbin Amman, and Donovan E. Davis and wife Tricia. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Davis, Samantha Davis, Will Shaver and wife Amy, Katie Walker and husband Chris, Hanna Gamble, Christine Davis, and John Davis; six great-grandchildren, Nolan, Mallory and Anna Shaver and Lauren, Isaiah, and Madelyn Saravia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John Davis, Chris Walker, Ryan Didion, and Corbin Amman.
The family wishes to acknowledge with grateful appreciation the loving and compassionate care provided by: Josephine Collins, Linda Blaney, Lois Tucker, Madeleyne Campo, and Kashonda Robinson.
