J.C. (Jeddie) Watson

Mr. J.C. (Jeddie) Watson of Monroe, LA, died Monday, November 25, 2013, following a long illness. He was 82 years of age. 
A Celebration of Life will be held for him at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe. The Reverands Rodney Jackson, Kenneth Jordan, and William Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. 
Mr. Watson was born July 14, 1931, in the Rosefield Community, North LaSalle Parish. He attended Jena High School in Jena, LA. 
He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers, Clifford, Theo and Morris Watson and a brother who died shortly after birth; a nephew, Glenn Watson; and a brother-in-law, Earnest (Stinky) Turner. 
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Smith Watson; daughter, Theresa Ann and Jack Skeen; grandson, Joseph (Jay) and wife Jennifer Skeen; granddaughter, Jessica Ann Skeen and fiancé Matt Brouillette; and by the sunshine of his life, great granddaughter, Josie Ann Skeen. He is also survived by siblings and their spouses, Leo and Leona Watson, Virgil and Gail Watson, Shelby and Brenda Watson, Shirley Turner, Linda and Ronald Carter, Kathy and Kenneth Jordan, Virginia and Ron Hornbeck,; sisters-in-law, Sandra, Olla Belle and Maedelle Watson; aunt, Jane Watson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 
While still a teenager, he joined his father in the logging business. In 1952 he was inducted into the United States Army and saw action in the Korean War. After his discharge he was employed as a parts salesman for Osborne Ford Company in Tallulah, LA. In 1956, J.C. moved his family to Monroe where he was employed as a member of the parts department at Scogin Ford Company where he remained for a number of years, through several ownerships. In 1972, when the dealership was owned by Jack and Jim Rivers, J.C. joined with them in founding Tri-J, an auto parts warehouse under the Rivers Ford umbrella, which he managed for several years. In 1987 he purchased Ram Auto Supply which he operated until his retirement in 1998. 
Mr. Watson loved music, especially bluegrass. He and Barbara enjoyed attending bluegrass festivals around northeast Louisiana. While still a teenager, he and his brother, Cliff, were part of a country western band. Playing the guitar was something he greatly enjoyed. 
For years he was a member at Moore’s Gym in Monroe, where he made many lifelong friends. He loved hunting and fishing and being in the woods, at one with nature. 
Mr. Watson’s philosophy of life was “God first, family second, and country third.” He was Chairman of Deacons at Southside Baptist Church, later Sandel Road Baptist Church for many years. 
Pallbearers will be nephews, Todd Watson, Issac Watson, Bryan Carter, James (Bubba) Richardson, Bo Holloway, and Benjamin Lawson. Honorary pallbearers are Dozier Harrell, Gene Smith, Troy Woodall, and Tobie McKown. 
The family would like to thank the staff at the V.A. Home, staff at Legacy Hospice, especially Joyce Boyd, and for the support and prayers given by all the family and friends. A special thank you to Dr. Dean Stockstill.
