Janet Lusk Muffett

February 21, 1929 — December 24, 2012

Janet Lusk Muffett was born on February 21, 1929 in Epps, LA, and passed away on December 24, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center after a courageous fight with cancer.

Janet was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Billy Muffett. She was also preceded in death by her parents Tommy and Hat Lusk of Epps, LA, a sister Billie Sprankle, and a brother Bo Lusk.

She is survived by sister-in-law Chris Lusk, nephews Daryl Lusk and family of Monroe, LA; Larry Lusk and family of Epps, LA; brother-in-law Bill Jay, nephew Kelly Jay, niece Phala Jay all of Abilene, TX. She is also survived by special “cousin”, caregiver, and life-long friend Florence Leath; caregiver and close friend Marsha Leath; and special friend and flower girl Leslie Leath Fogger. Other close friends are too numerous to mention, but she was close to her card playing group and her baby “Precious”, her dog and companion.

Janet also had many friends across the country. Her husband, Billy, played and coached Major League Baseball for 30 years. They made so many friends throughout his career, and we are unable to contact them all and hope they understand. She also had many friends at North Monroe Baptist Church, including Associate Pastor Warren Eckhardt.

Janet fought a long hard battle with cancer. Her strength of character enabled her to endure her illness with a smile, showing us, her friends, what a true Southern lady she truly was.

Upon her written request and to the dismay of friends and family, she requested no funeral or memorial services. This is not our wish, but hers, and we shall honor it. Janet is now at peace with her devoted husband Billy, and her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Memorials can be sent to North Monroe Veterans Home or Chennault Aviation and Military Museum in her honor. Janet and Billy were both great Americans and patriots and supported and admired our service men and women.
