Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Teer Ellett, 78, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, Loop Road, Monroe, LA with Rev. Brian Mercer and Rev. Shawn Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.
Mrs. Ellett was born on March 14, 1943 and passed away on September 15, 2021 with her family at her side. Born in Delhi, Louisiana, Jane was the second child of the late Dr. Lorenz Teer and Madeline Kate Haughton Teer. Mrs. Ellett graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1965 Where she met the love of her life, John D. Ellett while he was a graduate student. They were wed in 1966 and lived in Fort Worth. During their time in Texas Jane, with John, were participants of both the Louisiana and Texas Air Tours and she earned her private pilot license (in the event something happened to John during flight). She also began her career as a mother with the birth of their 3 children, David, Diana , and Darin. That career included scout leader, band and swim team mom, and even softball coach. They moved back to the Monroe area where she became extremely active with her church, First United Methodist Church Monroe. Her connections touched hundreds of lives with her devotion to community activity and charity. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women, where she served as President and District Officer. Within the church, Mrs. Ellett served as a Committee Member for the founding of the Pumpkin Patch, “Soup”er Saturday, Mother’s Day Out, and served as a Building Committee Member during the construction of the new sanctuary. In Louisiana, she continued her career as a teacher by joining the Mathematics Department at NLU where she also earned her master’s degree in mathematics in 1988.
They moved to West Monroe in 1991 after the kids were off to college. Then she really began her service to the community. She served on the Board of Adjustments for the City of West Monroe for 19 years, was the Board Chair of Silver Waters Girl Scout Council , and a Board Member for the Methodist Children’s Home. She was a member of PEO, Church Women United, Republican Women, Junior Study Club, and, Concern for Persons. She served as caregiver for her mother, Madeline Teer, and her aunt, Dorothy Haughton. Through all this she travelled to 38 countries, some multiple times. She enjoyed puzzles, collecting dolls, egg cups and frogs.
Mrs. Ellett is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Lorenz and Madeline Kate Teer, and brother in law Garland Kyle.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Ellett; children, David Ellett and wife, Katrina, Diana Butler and husband, Tom and Darin Ellett and wife, Stephanie; grandchildren, Shawn Pritchett, Jordan Pritchett and wife, Yolanda (Yoli), Madeline (Maddie) and Megan Butler, Meredith and Melody Ellett; great grandchildren, Isabella (Bella), Sergio, and Cristian Pritchett; sister, Ellen Kyle; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Ellett, Darin Ellett, Tom Butler, Al Kyle, Kevin Kyle, and Robert Kyle. Honorary Pallbearers will be Shawn Prichett, Jordan Prichett, Don Adams, Johnny Jacobs, Mickey Reeves, Eugene Montgomery and the members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 20, 2021 at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
