James Wesley was born in Tallulah, Louisiana, on November 30, 1946, and died at St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana, on Thursday, October 5, 2017.
James was an all-around athlete and avid sports fan growing up, leading to his tireless involvement with his sons, Edwin and Blair, and the Monroe Youth Baseball and Osterland Youth Baseball Programs in Ouachita Parish. His love of the game continued with Semi-pro and college baseball with Edwin and numerous MLB outings with family and friends. James enjoyed supporting his sons and their children in their adventures in band, sports, martial arts, and academics. He enjoyed golf with friends and family alike, planning many trips and rounds of golf in several states. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the former Jaycees and their monthly lunches. James had an active role in Local, Regional, and State Jaycees from 1970 through 1982, gaining many lifelong friendships in his association with that program. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Northeast Louisiana State College in 1968. James was an accountant for 40 years in Divisional and Corporate Accounting from the Olin days through his retirement with Graphic Packaging in 2009. He and Barbara have enjoyed travel with their sons and grandchildren, and James was the consummate reader much like his dad, Buck Reeves.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley “Buck” Reeves, Sr. and Cora Mae Roberson Reeves; and his brother, Michael Wayne Reeves. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Jo DeMoss Reeves; his sons, James Edwin and wife, Selena, and Michael Blair. Survivors also include grandchildren, Storm Matthew and wife, Hailey, Ryan Wesley, Abbegail Marie, William Grafton Hobbs, Haley Gail Little, Lauren Kacey Little, Garrett Michael, and Olivia Elise; great grandchildren, James Flynn, Suzanne Lauren, and Reed Michael; aunt, Louise Roberson Cox; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Honorary Pallbearers are Herschel Ryan, Bill Pippin, Eddie Roberson, Bill Brodie, Phil Carpenter, Louis Price, Ted Gilly, Gaston Alvarez, Ronnie Roth, Jesse Fulmer, and Steve Gibson.
