Jesus called James Travis Smith home on January 22, 2018. His life will be celebrated Wednesday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Wisner with Bro Thomas Peoples and Bro Carlton Vance officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. preceding service. Burial will be at South Central Baptist Church, Wisner, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
“Buck” as he was affectionally called, was born March 13, 1922 in Pineville, LA. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Wisner, LA. He was a deacon, taught Sunday School, was a worship leader and sang in the choir.
After graduating from Bolton High School in Alexandria, LA and Louisiana College in Pineville, he was a pilot with Army Aircorp during World War II. Being also a farmer, he raised cotton, cattle, and a wonderful garden. He retired from the Department of Children and Family Services
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Hugh and Jettie Smith, his wife of 72 years, Mary Virginia Smith, and granddaughter Megan Leigh Monroe. Survivors include: James Ernest Smith and wife Sherrelene of Sibley, LA, daughter Connie Monroe and husband Jim of Baton Rouge, LA, 3 grandchildren; James Christopher Monroe and wife Lindsey of Montgomery, TX., Darryl Ryan Monroe and wife Natalie of Alexandria, LA., Tanya Dawn Larson and husband Kyle of Temple, TX., 6 great grandchildren; Mallory Larson, Shelby Larson, Ryan Monroe, Raegan Monroe, Parker Monroe, and Pierson Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Chris Monroe, Darryl Monroe, Kyle Larson, Paul Ray Jones, Paul Garrett Jones and Brian Guillot
