James Michael Reis

James Michael “Mike” Reis died of natural causes at his home in Monroe on March 15, 2024.   He was 74.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Mike was the second child of Alvin Carl Reis and Bobbie Austin Reis.  Mike graduated from Neville High School (class of ’67) and from L.S.U. in Baton Rouge.  He pursued a career in petroleum engineering, until he suffered injuries in an offshore explosion in 1989.  Thereafter, Mike attended and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science.

Mike married Susie, the love of his life.  Four years later they were blessed with a daughter, Stephanie, who is an attorney, practicing law in Dallas, Texas.

Mike is survived by his wife, Susan Marshall Reis and their daughter, Stephanie Reis Thornhill (Taylor), his brother Scott Reis (Rebecca), his cousin Penny Pickering (Forrest) and his cousin Jay McCready (Juli).  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
