Graveside Services for Mr. James Lawrence Briant, 71, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 17, 2020, at the Antioch Methodist Church in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Neil Wigley and Dr. Mark Fenn officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Mr. Briant was born on February 1, 1949, in Monroe, LA, and passed away on December 14, 2020. He was very kindhearted and loved greeting people and getting to know them. His greatest joy in life was the relationship that he had with his mother. He was devoted to her and his brother. Mr. Briant was employed by the City of West Monroe for 25 years. He loved LSU and New Orleans Saints football and watched their games regularly. He was a western movie fan, especially, John Wayne.
He was previously a member of First Baptist Church of West Monroe, LA and Oak Grove Baptist Church of Eros, LA. James always participated in many church activities. He sang in the choir, helped in VBS and other children’s activities. He became a Christian at an early age and grew up in churches. He loved reading his Bible and listening to gospel music.
He loved being included in the brotherhood of the Ouachita Parish Firefighters. He was proud to be made an Honorary District Chief by them and participated in a retirement ceremony in 2013. Nothing pleased him more than making his phone rounds every day and visiting with the guys. He loved them all.
Mr. Briant was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah R. Head (Carl); father, Louis P. Briant; and sister, Patty Thibodeaux.
Survivors include his brother, Neil Briant (Janet) of West Monroe; sisters, Denise Clark of Lillie, LA, Micki Lineburger of Eagle River, AK, and Sherryl Couvillion of Lafayette, LA; uncle, Billy Ramsey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
