Funeral services for Mr. James (Jim) Smith, 62, of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 31, 2011 in the sanctuary of Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Wayne Evans officiating.
Jim was born on November 11, 1948 to Ruth and James Smith in Jackson, MS and passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011, after a brave fight against lung disease. He grew up in Rayville, LA and graduated from Rayville High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp. As a United States Marine, he served in Vietnam and upon returning to Monroe, he attended ULM and made Monroe his home.
His humor, warmth, and personality touched many lives and made countless friends. As an outdoorsman, he was passionate about camping, fishing, and golf.
Jim is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Kerri Aucoin Smith; son, Jeremy Smith of Austin, TX; grandson, Cade Smith; and many relatives and friends.
Concluding the services there will be a family visitation in the Church Hall.
