James (Jim) Robert Taylor, Jr.

March 12, 1944 — March 25, 2014

James Robert, “Jim” Taylor, Jr. of Monroe died Tuesday after a long illness. He was 70 years old.

Jim was born in Monroe on March 12, 1944. He was a graduate of Neville High School, Northeast Louisiana University and Louisiana State University.

In 1968, Jim began working as the Finance and Insurance Manager at Van-Trow Oldsmobile, Cadillac and Toyota. He worked for the Van Veckhoven family for 20 years before leaving to become the general manager of Regency Motors in Bastrop. In 2001, Jim became the dealer principal of Jim Taylor Chevrolet in Rayville, and he later became the dealer at Jim Taylor Ford in Ruston. During his 45 years in the car business, Jim became known for his honesty and generosity. He was very proud of the fact that many of his employees had worked for him for nearly 20 years.

Also in 1968, Jim married Sharon Allen Taylor, his wife and partner for 40 years. Together they raised two children and became known in Monroe for their community service. After Sharon’s death in 2008, Jim was reunited with his first love, Linda Atkinson Hanchey. They married in 2011, and Linda was Jim’s best friend, soul mate and loving companion until his death.

Jim was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Rayville Men’s Group, the United Way Steamboat Society, the Neville Friends and Alumni Association and the ULM Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Taylor, of Monroe; his wife, Sharon Allen Taylor, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Heath Allen, Jr. of Monroe, and his son, James Robert “Jay” Taylor III.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Hanchey Taylor, and his daughter, Tanya Taylor Pesek, her husband Mark, and their children, Sarah Helen Pesek; Nathan Taylor Pesek, and Nicholas “Cole” Allen Pesek.
